Wargames @ Nordalia.com FAQ Updated 28 June, 2007
General
Who are you, what do you do, who should I contact about XXX?
- Please read About for answers to these questions.
Why don’t you cover Genre X or Scale Y?
- Most likely because we don’t have a staff member that has a background in that genre, or the following is so small that coverage here isn’t the wisest use of our web space and time. Let us know though, if enough people want a genre or scale in a particular genre, we will consider adding it to our coverage.
Why don’t you have feature XXX on Wargames @ Nordalia.com?
- The most likely reason is because we didn’t know there was a need – let us know, and we’ll work to rectify it.
There are bad or broken links on Wargames @ Nordalia.com, what do I do?
- Email The Webmistress and let us know what the page is and how you tried to get there. Our thanks in advance.
I want to write for you guys, how do I get involved?
- We recruit new staff as we find a need or a good writer, but will never turn away a good article. The compensation is nothing (zero, nada), but we will give you a platform to express a quality idea. Email Don, and we’ll start the process to decide if we like it. If we don’t like your article idea, you always have the option of posting it in the forums as a topic…
Needless to say, when we do go to expand our staff, we’ll recruit from those that have written for us before.
- Note that we make a bit of noise that the founders were publishing professionals. Do not let this deter you - we have The Editrix, the finest editor we know, on our staff, and she can make anyone sound good.
I’m a vendor employee and I’d like to write for you, what can I do?
- Unfortunately, nothing. In order to maintain the image of our impartiality, we obviously cannot accept articles from vendors, vendor employees, or vendor contractors. It’s not that we’re saying you are biased, we are saying that many people will perceive you as biased whether you are or not, and that would change their perception of us.
Users
I submitted a weblink, and it's not showing up, why is that?
- Our weblinks system requires approval before the links become available. This is so that we know what is getting dumped out ther and the link is valid for wargamers.
I can’t see some things on Wargames @ Nordalia.com, and I can’t post anything, what do I do?
- If you are a registered user, then you are probably not logged in. Check to see if it says “Welcome [Username] in the left sidebar. If it does not, you are not logged in.
The number of articles in a category overview doesn't match the number in the category list. Why is that?
- Most of our articles are set up for registered members only for the first one to two weeks they are online. During this time, the category list will include these articles in a count if you are not registered and logged in, but will not display the restricted items when you open the category list.
User XXX is abusing me in the forums, what do I do?
- By all means, let us know! We are out here a lot, but we don’t see everything in a timely manner. This is a family friendly forum, abuse and abusive language will not be tolerated.
I can’t log in, have I been banned?
- We have your email address, if you were banned by us, we emailed you with an explanation. If you didn’t get an email, then assume that either (a) you typed something wrong for username and password or (b) there’s a problem with the site at the moment. As a last resort, email the The Webmistress.
I want more or less coverage of XXX, what do I do?
- We prefer that you post this in the forums under “General Discussion|Q&A”. This gives the other readers a chance to debate your view, and offers us a more rounded idea of what’s important to the readers at large.
- If for some reason you are not comfortable following this preference, write Don, let him know. We need to know how to better serve the industry, and private email is better than not hearing from you at all.
I want to praise a writer/article or point out the flaws in an article, what can I do?
- We really prefer that you do this in the forums. That’s why they’re there. Every article will have a thread created in the appropriate forum when it is posted. Please comment there, where your peers can see it and agree or disagree with you. Note that we will not tolerate unwarranted abuse of our writers. Well reasoned and thought out rebuttals of articles are fine, just keep it informed and not inflamed.
I’ve been banned, what now?
- We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but that’s it. We don’t want this site to degenerate into a flame-war center, that just disenchants people in the long run, and we don’t want you being foul or spamming on our site. So banned is banned – whatever you did, we don’t want you back. Perhaps we’ll make an exception after you’ve been gone six months, you can write the The Webmistress and ask. Don’t count on it though.
Can I have more than one account?
- Technically, we have not at this time implemented anything to stop you from doing this, but please don’t. It wastes our system resources, and we have yet to hear a good reason for multiple accounts under one name. Note that we ban by IP, so this won’t work as a route around banning.
Vendors
I’m a vendor and I think you wrote a bad/unfair/biased review of my product, what can I do?
- Email Don, and start a conversation. We’re all about accurate information for wargamers, and inaccurate articles don’t forward that goal. We may have to agree to disagree in some cases, but we definitely want you to let us know. Please make it clear that you are the vendor of the product in question, and please remember to be civil. We are not “out to get you”, we’re out to serve the readers.
- Alternatively, feel free to post in the thread for that article.
I’m a vendor and I’d like to advertise, what do I do?
- email Don and let's talk. At this time we are not pursuing advertising, but we do want to talk to you - we won't take advertising unless we understand the market and what the potential is. Vendors are the best place to get that information.
Why are you acting odd about advertising?
- Honestly? The founders of this site made enough money and had enough fun in their day jobs that turning Wargames @ Nordalia into a full-time proposition was not an option. That may change in the future, but that's where we started.
I’m a vendor and I’d like to ship you some free product to review, what do I do?
- We’re a little up in the air about this topic at this time. Feel free to email Don, but understand that we are harshly impartial, and we’re trying to maintain our image of impartiality, This does not rule out the possibility - we have done free product reviews before - but it has to fit our editorial needs, and there are not guarantees when you send it to us.
We offer free stuff to anybody, can we send you that without worrying about what our competitors will do?
- Now if you are offering this free stuff to “just anybody”, then by all means, send it! While you’re at it, tell us how to get it so we can post that information on our site. All wargamers love free stuff, and our readers will love you.
We've got some news about our products or company, can we tell you?
- We have shut down our news announcements section because vendors were just posting in the forums anyway. Send it along to Don if you think it's news-worthy, we might think so too.
