The Reviewers' Notebook | Print |  E-mail

For the next... Oh I don't know, about that long, I'll be writing my nightly notes about what I'm up to and what I think of it.

I paint every night, but I only write a review when something we purchased for the site (or a vendor sent us for review) is finished and I want to lose a night of painting taking pictures and writing.

The rest of the site is here for you - everything we do on it we think "is this useful to readers". This section - the "opinions" or "blogs" section - is not edited. The articles on the site are edited at least once each, normally twice (once by a "reader" for relevance to our audience - you, and once by The Editrix to make certain it's readable). So I'm going to fill this space with nightly ramblings about what I'm up to.

Tonight for example, I finished up the German half of an Irregular Miniatures Battle Set that we bought for review, and got about 1/2 way through painting the Resina Planet Escarlita that we brought in for review. I also took pictures of the Castle Kits sets that Iain sent us for review so that the WebMistress (who is our resident Hirst Arts wizard) can start assembling and reviewing it.

The other thing I did is not review-related. I purchased a Tiriel figure for The WebMistress to represent one of her D&D characters, and was toying with different purple inks, washes, and paints on it. I bought a new wash and used it on the breastplate a couple of days ago, and we decided it was just not right. So I went to paint over it... And it showed pink through the white paint. So I painted it light gray, and it still showed through as pink. I let it sit for 48 hours, and tonight I tried painting it bright white. The pink still showed through. So I have her soaking in Pine-Sol and water to strip her. What a pain, but now we know.

That's it for tonight. Since this is the first installment, I'll just tell you up-front that above where I mentioned the rest of the site is for you, the reviewers' notebook is for me. I'm not going to advertise it, I'm going to set it to registered members only, and if a few of you happen upon it and find it useful, please don't hesitate to let me know on the forums, but that's not the point. I'll just dump here as a way to chatter at no one.

And if you don't find any useful bits or interesting comments, well, don't read the future installments.

Don.
